Whilst basketball has always attracted a relatively small but dedicated core of support in Tower Hamlets, the sport has received a major boost over the past year. Whilst Greenhouse Schools have supplied welcome additional coaching in two secondary schools, the Tower Hamlets Youth Sport Foundation also created a Basketball Development Officer post in partnership with Reach and Teach, who lead the game’s development in London.
The 2015-16 season will see the first Tower Hamlets Basketball Academy teams entered into the Community Basketball League and it is our ambition to enter teams into the National Basketball League in 2016-17.
We now seek a sessional basketball coach to work alongside our Basketball Development Officer, who demonstrates the following qualities:
• Qualified to Level 2 standard or above
• An ability to deliver safe, engaging and progressive coaching sessions appropriate to a range of ages
• Experience of coaching young people, both in school and community settings
• Ability to work as part of a team

Planning and Management
1 Develop and deliver an annual coaching plan linked to basketballscotland’s

2 Monitor and report regularly on progress within the coaching delivery

Communication and Best Practice
1 Communicate and share best practice throughout the Coaching Community

Support for Coaches
1 Contribute to the development of coaching through all pathway programmes
2 Manage the delivery of a targeted coaching development programme ensuring
selected coaches are supported, and challenged in their development
3 Plan and oversee an annual programme of education courses
4 Deliver a range of development opportunities and programmes to suit the needs
of targeted coaching communities
5 Manage the development pathway and programme for the UKCC workforce

1 Develop and manage a best practice programme for employing and deploying

The University of Edinburgh is seeking an ambitious individual to coach their Men’s 1st Team within its highly regarded performance basketball programme.
This is a hugely exciting opportunity to work with a group of talented young men playing in the Scottish National League and the BUCS Scottish 1A. A big focus should be placed on pushing to be promoted to BUCS Premier League this year after winning BUCS 1A for a number of years, as well as building on a successful National League season and a 2nd place Scottish Cup finish.
Applicants should be experienced in playing and coaching basketball at a high level, as well as being dedicated and able to ensure a good team ethos to push players towards meeting training and conditioning standards.
Applicants should be qualified to at least UKCC level 2, but more importantly, possess a real desire for personal development and the drive to play a key role in an ambitious performance sport environment.
The role will include approximately 10 contact hours with the team each week as well as other administrative duties.
