Gold and silver medal performances by our athletes at the Rio Olympic Games continues an outstanding run of 8 Olympic Canoe Sprint medals since Sydney 2000.   Canoe Sprint athletes have won Olympic medals at 5 consecutive games, in this period canoeing as a whole has won 16 Olympic medals including 4 golds. Notwithstanding continuing to win medals on the World and European stage at all levels, British Canoe Sprint aims to challenge the podium in more events across gender, distance and canoe & kayak.

This position offers a significant opportunity to develop a structure, support athletes and create a culture that can challenge all 12 of the available medals for the Tokyo cycle compared to the 5 medal events contested in Rio. Opportunities to lead a 12 medal winning sport do not come every day and this provides the growth potential to put Canoe Sprint on the map in the UK.

British Canoeing is the National Governing Body for Paddle sports within the UK.  Sprint Canoeing is one of the key canoeing disciplines supported by UK Sport with a current funding for this Olympic cycle of £8.2m.  We currently provide a performance programme that currently supports 12 Podium, 17 Podium Potential and 14 athletes on a fast track development programme.  With the new Olympic cycle you will have the opportunity to map out a new programme to target the new events.

Reporting to the Performance Director, and as a member of the British Canoeing Performance Senior Leadership Team, this role is key to creating a high performance culture and environment in Canoe Sprint.  The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to work in a performance environment of high measurability, mixing technical and physical areas akin to some of our most successful Olympic and Paralympic sports.  You will get the chance to lead a developing team of support staff and athletes into a new chapter in the development of an Olympic sport to Tokyo and beyond.

We are looking for someone to provide inspirational and dynamic leadership and management to the British Canoeing Canoe Sprint World Class Performance programme. The role will give you the unique opportunity to work alongside and exchange ideas with other canoeing performance disciplines that have also had recent success at Olympic/Paralympic level including Canoe Slalom who finished Rio with another Gold and Silver medal as it did in London 2012 and our Paracanoe programme debuting in Rio in mid-September with high hopes of retaining its position at the top of the medal table at world level.

Helping to establish a centralised programme based at Nottingham will be one of the first strategic priorities that we will be looking for the Manager to work with the Performance Director and Coaches to put in place. The role will lead in the development of an inspiring and athlete enabling single location high performance culture across the sprint pathway at the National Watersports Centre.

Closing date for applications is Friday 23rd September 2016

First Interviews will be held on Monday 31st October 2016
