    The role of Finance Director is that of an Executive member of the Board of Directors for England Golf and a member of the Senior Management team.

    The Finance Director is required to present the financial accounts of the organisation at the Annual General Meeting and is responsible for all the financial and statutory reporting, strategies, procedures and activities within England Golf and its 100% owned subsidiary, Woodhall Spa Golf Management 2005 Ltd (WSGM), which commercially manages the National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa. WSGM is a commercial organisation with a turnover of £2.2M and staff of around 50.

    This role will provide strategic and financial support to the Senior Management team and specifically the CEO. The successful candidate must be a qualified accountant to at least CIMA, ACCA, ACA or CIPFA level. You will need to have strong managerial skills and a proven track record of direct management and control of a minimum of £5M turnover. In addition, to have the ability to liaise with statutory agencies, and communicate across a wide range of audiences both external and internal. The ability to communicate complex technical matters to non-financial and senior finance colleagues within the organisation is essential as well as preparing and presenting financial and management accounts, reports and data. The Finance and Administration team works across the organisation, supporting all areas of the business and you must be able to quickly understand the nuances of a membership based and not-for-profit organisation along with the commercially run National Golf Centre and the pressures each area of the businesses face.

    The post is full-time (Monday – Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm core hours), however, this role is required to work the hours necessary to reasonably discharge the duties and responsibilities and some travel may be required. The post is based at England Golf HQ in Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire.

    The Golf Union of Wales invites applications for the position of Director of Performance. The successful candidate will manage all areas of coaching, player development and the competitive programme for elite golfers and national teams.

    Reporting to the Chief Executive the post holder will be responsible for:

    • Preparing and overseeing the implementation of the Teams & Performance element of the GUW’s Vision and Strategy
    • Ensuring that the best structure is in place for Welsh Teams at all levels to be successful and for individual players to develop to their full potential
    • Ensuring that the appropriate support staff are engaged to deliver the GUW’s performance related goals.
    • Managing and leading the team of support staff and volunteers
    • Establishing, developing and maintaining good relationships with key partners including suppliers and manufacturers.
    • Managing the Teams & Performance Committee and providing appropriate support.
    • Preparing & managing the Committee’s budget.

    The successful candidate will have knowledge of golf and its structures and an understanding of High Performance Sport including the essential areas of talent ID and player development.

    Hours: 35 hours weekly on average. The post-holder will be required to work additional hours at peak times during the year to meet the needs of the Union.

    Key Responsibilities
    To direct and manage all areas of coaching, player development and the competitive programme for elite golfers and national teams. To implement the objectives of the GUW that relate to improving performance of players and teams.

    Key Duties
    Managing the Teams and Performance Committee
    The Director of Performance will be required to ensure that all matters relating to the area of responsibility of the Teams and Performance Committee are carried out efficiently and effectively. The following is not an exhaustive list but provides an outline of the duties of the post

    1. Manage the Teams and Performance Committee and provide appropriate support.
    2. Liaise with the Chairman to ensure the implementation of decisions and delivery of key areas of responsibility.
    3. Prepare and manage the Committee’s budget in liaison with the Chairman of the committee.

    Performance and Coaching
    4. Prepare and oversee the implementation of the Teams & Performance element of the GUW’s Vision and Strategy
    5. Liaise with appropriate stakeholders to ensure that the best structure is in place for Welsh Teams at all levels to be successful.
    6. Liaise with Sport Wales, the R&A and other appropriate bodies regarding funding and grants.
    7. Ensure that the appropriate support staff are engaged to deliver the GUW’s performance goals.
    8. To work with the coaches to identify their own training requirements and develop plans to help them become recognised as some of the best coaches in the UK.
    9. To work with the coaches to identify and develop the best and most talented players in Wales and devise with them appropriate coaching and support to accelerate improvement in their playing performance.
    10. To work with the team captains and managers to ensure they have all the necessary training and resources to produce the best possible team results
    11. Set performance targets and monitoring procedures for coaches and players at elite level across Wales
    12. Plan and co-ordinate the international calendar to ensure elite players have the opportunity to play at the appropriate level. Advise on matters concerning the domestic programme.
    13. Oversee and approve logistics relating to team/squad travel for international and domestic events.
    14. Develop and maintain good relationships with manufacturers for the benefit of players.
    15. Oversee the provision and distribution of team kit and equipment

    Other
    16. Oversee the GUW order of merit systems.
    17. Provide anti-doping advice and education to players
    18. Represent the GUW at meetings, conferences, etc. as required.
    19. Undertake any other duties which the GUW may at any time deem necessary.
    20. As required under the relevant legislation, exercise person responsibility for health and safety.
    21. Ensure that all activities undertaken are carried out to the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in accordance with the Union’s policies and procedures.

    The Head of Delivery is a new role and is responsible for ensuring that Regional Managers and the County Development Officer network effectively deliver the participation and club support elements of the strategic plan.

    You will need to have knowledge of national, regional and county based sport along with the structure of golf. It is essential that you have the ability to persuade and influence across a range of audiences and to build and sustain relationships with staff, volunteers and partners.
