    PERFORMANCE CENTRES

    Performance Centres are an exciting development in The Player Pathway and will be introduced in January 2017. There will be seventeen Performance Centres strategically located across England to maximise opportunity and player development. Through the delivery in Performance Centres, England Hockey and the Regions want to move talent development to a higher level.

    Performance Centres aim to:

    • Develop an oversupply of high calibre players for National Age Group Squads
    • Provide frequent, exceptionally high quality contact time for a targeted group of players
    • Provide appropriate competition to support player development
    • Provide high quality education that effectively prepares young players for performance environments

    The RHA will be appointing two Lead Coaches to each Performance Centre (one per gender).

    ROLE SUMMARY: LEAD COACH

    We are looking for exceptional Lead Coaches who:

    • Can work within a team of coaches to create an intensive and pressurised training environment to encourage the development of effective decision makers and highly skilled players who can repeatedly perform under pressure
    • Will consistently apply the Golden Thread and National Skills Priorities, instilling the Overarching Principles, and lead the overall technical and tactical programme
    • Can work with the England Hockey appointed Head Coach to maximise the delivery of the coaching team within the Performance Centre

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Create a working plan for delivery of all pitch sessions with the other appointed members of the Performance Centre coaching team; effectively applying National Development Themes and the Golden Thread
    • Alongside the Head Coach, lead the delivery of pitch sessions
    • Be involved in the planning and delivery of educational content within on and off pitch sessions; maximising the skill sets of all coaches
    • Work with the Performance Centre regional management and administrative systems to support delivery and respect any regulations set out in the regional terms of reference for the Performance Centre
    • In an intense, training and competition environment, prioritise player development over competition result
    • Work with young athletes and be responsible for their welfare and protection
    • Support the Head Coach to produce summative written feedback for players

     

    ADMINISTRATION

    Work with all coaches within the centre as a team to meet summative player feedback and selection requirements, including:

    • Compose and deliver feedback to players (both formative and summative)
    • Contribute to the production of summative written feedback
    • Any other reasonable requests

    OTHER DUTIES

    • Attend regional CPD days/events
    • Encourage a connected approach with Academy Centre activity, advocating openness and dialogue relating to players inside and outside of the Performance Centre environment
    • Support the holistic development of Performance Centre players through effective communication with club and school coaches and other stakeholders
    • As a coaching team, encourage contact with club and school environments which your players attend on a regular basis, building relationships to facilitate player centred discussions

     

    PERSON SPECIFICATION

    • Must hold a (minimum) Level 2, EH Sessional or EH Coach equivalent qualification
    • A dynamic coach who is able to deliver exceptional development opportunities to our best young hockey players
    • A can do attitude and solution focussed approach
    • Extensive hockey coaching experience and / or a strong understanding or the requirements of junior international hockey; a forward thinking coach who understands a games-based and constraint led coaching approach
    • Evidence of creative and effective practise design and session planning
    • Strong communicator, able to clearly and accurately share information
    • Excellent observational skills relating to talent identification
    • Self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team
    • Have completed an enhanced DBS check through England Hockey within the last three years
    • Have attended a scUK Safeguarding and Protecting Young People in Sport workshop within the last three years
    • Have a First Aid qualification(achieved in the last three years)
    • Have valid Public Liability Insurance for coaching young people

    Appointments will be made based on suitability against the job specification, evidenced experience and appropriate references. There may be a requirement to attend an interview in some cases and the region reserves the right to request session observations.

    For 2017 Futures Cup coaching teams will be selected from the pool of Performance Centre Head Coaches and Performance Centre Lead Coaches.

    The purpose of the club development officer role is:

    WORKFORCE TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

    England Hockey is recruiting for a Workforce Training and Development Manager (WTDM) to join their Development Team. The WTDM is responsible for leading the delivery of the England Hockey’s strategic aims and objectives related to: Coach education and training and officiating (umpiring, technical officiating and rules).

    The role requires research, development and delivery of programmes, projects and resources to support coach development and training, officiating, technical officiating, rules and volunteering. The WTDM will work closely with key personnel, organisations and associations at national, regional and county level to effectively and efficiently roll out all relevant projects and programmes. The WTDM will be delivery focused and work closely with other National Managers across the organisation to translate strategic priorities into clear and measurable outcomes.

    The WTDM will be required to develop a seamless relationship between all England Hockey Directorates to ensure integrated and joined up delivery at all levels. To this end the WTDM will be an excellent communicator who can quickly establish credibility and strong relationships across a wide and complex network of stakeholders both internally in the sport and externally.

    RESOURCE OFFICER

    England Hockey is recruiting for a Resource Officer who will be responsible for the implementation and execution of training and education resources and products that will cater for the needs of coaches, officials and other key groups operating in both participation and talent. This role reports to the Workforce Training and Development Manager.

    The post holder will demonstrate a strong understanding and application of information technology developments and be skilled in editing video.

    KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Using content provided by functional ‘experts’, design, produce and maintain a suite of officiating and coaching resources and products in a wide variety of relevant formats and mediums
    2. Manage and regularly update the content on the England Hockey on-line learning platform
    3. Develop resources and products that are commercially viable and where appropriate generate revenue to contribute to England Hockey’s commercial objectives.
    4. Develop subject matter knowledge through participation in relevant networks and completion of relevant CPD.
    5. Produce succinct, relevant and agreed reports on progress against all objectives agreed with the Workforce Training and Development Manager.
    6. Actively collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the delivery of strategic and operational plans.
    7. Undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time that are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of England Hockey.

    SENIOR WOMEN’S PROGRAMME HEAD COACH

    Reporting to the Head of Performance, the Head Coach will be responsible for leading the senior women’s national squad with a view to achieving the aims outlined in vision 2020. The Wales senior women’s programme operates on a part time basis at the Sport Wales National Centre predominantly through camps. The programme Head Coach will be required to work closely with the Head of Performance and Senior Women’s Programme Manager to provide leadership for the programme through to World League in September 2016.
