    Tyne United Rowing Club offers both social and competitive rowing.

    Our Squads compete in Heads and Regattas both regionally and nationally, we have thriving, medal winning, Squads that are constantly looking to improve.

    We are always seeking new and talented self-employed rowing coaches to join our coaching team.  We are very keen to establish a diverse coaching team to undertake coaching services with Tyne United Rowing Club members and Northumbria University.

    Minimum requirement is a UKCC Level 2 Coaching in Rowing certificate and recent experience of coaching in a club/junior setting is highly desirable, if you fit the bill then get in touch.

    Successful applicants will coach water sessions from a launch and if not already in possession of a RYA recognised powerboat certificate they will be asked to attend a course to fulfil this requirement.

    Coaches will be responsible for registering with HMRC for self-employment and declaring all tax contributions.

    Valid membership of British Rowing is required for insurance purposes as coaches are responsible for providing their own suitable insurance cover. Coaches will also be responsible for ensuring they hold a valid First Aid certificate and have completed a DBS check.

    Prospective candidates should submit a covering letter and curriculum vitae together with the names and contact details of 2 referees (one reference must be rowing related, with the other from the applicant’s current/previous employer or client). References must be provided and will be taken up prior to interview. All candidates invited to interview will be required to undertake a practical assessment.

    The Role

    Scottish Rowing is the Governing Body for rowing in Scotland.  It promotes participation in rowing by both men and women, at every age and level of ability from novice to elite.  Scottish Rowing is now seeking to appoint a Director with responsibility for Corporate Governance to join its voluntary Board of Directors.  This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to get involved in shaping the future of rowing in Scotland.

    The Board meets up to eight times each year including the AGM and planning days.  The successful candidate should also expect to commit up to 2-3 hours per month for communication with the Chief Operating Officer and other staff as required.

    The post is accountable to the membership of Scottish Rowing through the Board of Directors, with a direct report to the President of Scottish Rowing as required.

    The term of office for this post is three years.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Help define and ensure compliance with Scottish Rowing’s Values, Objectives and Strategy.
    2. Work with the Chief Operating Officer to provide the Board with appropriate advice and information on all relevant matters to enable it to fulfil its corporate governance responsibilities including the Companies Act, Data Protection, Human Resources, Health and Safety, Child Protection and financial compliance.
    3. Work with the Chief Operating Officer to ensure expenditure is controlled in line with budgets.
    4. Ensure that Scottish Rowing’s affairs are conducted lawfully and in accordance with accredited standards of performance and propriety.
    5. Liaise with external partners where necessary to ensure financial and legal matters are handled appropriately.

    Duties Involved

    1. Form such sub-committees and/or working groups as required.
    2. Chair all such sub-committee meetings and involve appropriate staff as and when required.
    3. Liaise regularly with the President, the Chief Operating Officer, the Administrator and other staff as and when required.
    4. Participate in Board Meetings.

    Candidate Specification:

    • Experience as a Director, Trustee or Committee Member in either commercial, voluntary or public sector context is desirable.
    • Demonstrable experience of Corporate Governance, ideally with a legal or HR background.
    • Significant experience of operating at a senior level in a strategic capacity.
    • Sound working knowledge of sport and the public and private sectors.
    • Ability to build and maintain strong, transparent relationships with key stakeholders.
    • Ability to support, challenge and manage a relationship with other Board Members.
