Whilst basketball has always attracted a relatively small but dedicated core of support in Tower Hamlets, the sport has received a major boost over the past year. Whilst Greenhouse Schools have supplied welcome additional coaching in two secondary schools, the Tower Hamlets Youth Sport Foundation also created a Basketball Development Officer post in partnership with Reach and Teach, who lead the game’s development in London.
The 2015-16 season will see the first Tower Hamlets Basketball Academy teams entered into the Community Basketball League and it is our ambition to enter teams into the National Basketball League in 2016-17.
We now seek a sessional basketball coach to work alongside our Basketball Development Officer, who demonstrates the following qualities:
• Qualified to Level 2 standard or above
• An ability to deliver safe, engaging and progressive coaching sessions appropriate to a range of ages
• Experience of coaching young people, both in school and community settings
• Ability to work as part of a team
In return we can provide guaranteed coaching hours during term time, support with professional development and the opportunity to play a key role in an exciting transformation of a borough’s basketball landscape.
The Tower Hamlets Youth Sport Foundation is committed to the safeguarding of young people and as such all successful applicants will be expected to undergo Enhanced DBS Checks.
For an informal discussion about any of these opportunities, please call THYSF’s Club & Community Manager on 0207 987 4811 EXT 359
