Job Description – Travel and Planning Officer
Based at St George’s Park, near Burton upon Trent

This is a unique and exciting time to join The FA, and the Travel and Planning Officer as part of the England Team Operations Department, will be integral to the organisation achieving its goals.
In this senior role within the England Team Operations department, you will plan and manage the travel commitments for all matches and tournaments for the England Senior Men’s and Women’s Teams plus the men’s development teams including the selection and set up of the team hotel, rate negotiation and contracts, all airport arrangements and flight requirements.
You will be required to manage and oversee the expenditure with regard to hotels and flights for all England teams and events both in the UK and abroad with overall responsibility for ensuring seasonal budgets are accurately prepared, the most competitive rates are negotiated and costs are monitored in this area. It will be important to lead this area to maximise efficiency across the department and set consistent processes and this will be done in conjunction with The FA’s travel partners, internal Divisions, the Technical staff as well as venue staff at St George’s Park.
Planning is a key focus for this role and the development of clear processes to support the efficient organisation and delivery of England events is essential. You will work in collaboration to compile the seasonal fixture programmes and costs for men’s and women’s team ensuring a coherent and balanced calendar that can be delivered on budget.
You will be play an essential role on the project team for UEFA/FIFA Finals and provide advice on the base camp, hotels and travel plans as well as player and staff visas as required leading all relevant negotiations and contracts to deliver events as cost effectively as possible.
An essential part of the role is the development and maintenance of close, mutually beneficial working relationships with internal staff as well as the relevant external partners, bodies and suppliers as necessary.
You will possess outstanding planning and organisational skills with experience of managing and co-ordinating budgets and running projects.
You may have worked in the travel industry and have a strong network of contacts; you have experience of managing logistics, accommodation and travel requirements for large groups, preferably elite sports teams.
Flexibility is key to this role and you are keen, willing and able to travel regularly, sometimes overseas often for long periods of time and adapt your working hours to meet the needs of international sports events. Speaking one or more foreign languages would be an advantage.
Your communication skills are a real strength and you have a track record of good contract negotiation and building excellent relationships with a range of stakeholders and staff at all levels.
